- Cross rates: every currency is priced against the US dollar and the rupee, the way the forex market quotes them.
- Mid-market rate: the midpoint between buying and selling prices. Banks add their margin on top.

Yes. Rates come from the interbank forex market and refresh automatically every 30 seconds while the page is open. The exact market time of the rate is shown under the result.
Why is my bank rate different?
Banks and money changers add a margin. They buy foreign currency below the mid-market rate and sell it above it. Use this converter as a fair reference, and ask your bank for its TT buying or selling rate before a transaction.
Which rate should I use for GST, customs or books of accounts?
For imports, customs uses the exchange rate notified by CBIC every fortnight. For income tax (Rule 115 / TDS on foreign payments) the SBI TT buying rate of the relevant date is used. FBIL reference rates are commonly used for accounting. Ask us if you are not sure.
